Is an Arab country located in Western Asia. It is situated on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Oman originated as an Imamate in 750 CE, shortly after the fall of the Umayyads. Oman was able to create an Empire with territories in Africa and Asia. The Empire was divided in 1856 between Muscat and Oman (possessions in Asia and the Arabian Peninsula) and Zanzibar (possession in Africa). Muscat and Oman later became a British Protectorate. It gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1970.
