polity Louisiana Territory: All Data

This page is about the data available for this polity; the chronology of its events is available here.

With the so-called Louisiana Purchase, the United States purchased the French colonial possessions in North America (approximately 828,000 sq mi or 2,140,000 km2) for fifteen million dollars in 1803. This territory was clearly unincorporated at the time of the purchase and is thus treated as such. The territory was then divided in several different unincorporated territories, and the Louisiana Territory was soon reduced to roughly the modern-day U.S. state of Louisiana.
