polity French Fifth Republic: All Data

This page is about the data available for this polity; the chronology of its events is available here.

France is a country located primarily in Western Europe. It also includes overseas regions and territories in the Americas and the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. The French state was established with the incoronation of Hugh Capet in 987. To distinguish the Republic from its predecessors of the same name, France is here defined as the French Fifth Republic that was established on 4 October 1958 by Charles de Gaulle under the Constitution of the Fifth Republic. The Fifth Republic emerged from the collapse of the Fourth Republic, replacing the former parliamentary republic with a semi-presidential (or dual-executive) system.
