Is a country in Southeast Asia. It comprises the eastern half of the island of Timor, the exclave of Oecusse on the island's north-western half, and the minor islands of Atauro and Jaco. It unilaterally declared independece from Portugal in 1975 but was invaded by Indonesia shortly after. Indonesia left East Timor in 1999 and the country gained full independence in 2002 after a UN-administered transition period.
