Establishment

  • January 1275: In 1274, the territory of Santa Fiora was divided and went to Sovana County. The Aldobrandeschi family, a powerful noble family in medieval Tuscany, had their possessions split between the two small states. This division marked a significant shift in the political landscape of the region.

Disestablishment

  • January 1337: The state inherited by the Orsini was the county of Sovana, a fief of the Aldobrandeschi family, which passed in the second half of the 14th century into the hands of Romano Orsini, son of Bertoldo I, husband of the heiress Anastasia Aldobrandeschi.
