Was one of the Taifas (independent Muslim principality) in the Iberian Peninsula that emerged in the period following the fall of the Umayyad Caliphate of Córdoba.

Establishment

  • January 1077: Around 1076 Denia was conquered by the Taifa of Zaragoza establishing an independent Muslim kingdom in the Balearic archipelago.

1. Crusades

The Crusades were a series of religious wars initiated, supported, and sometimes directed by the Latin Church in the Medieval period. The best known of these military expeditions are those to the Holy Land in the period between 1095 and 1291.

1.1. 1113-15 Balearic Islands expedition

An expedition to the Balearic Islands, then a Muslim Taifa (principality), was launched in the form of a Crusade.

  • September 1114: Pisan troops made their way into the city of Ibiza and the Muslim commander surrendered unconditionally.
  • May 1115: With the capitulation of the Fort of Majorca, the Pisans completed their conquest of the Balearic Islands in April 1115.

2. Further events (Unrelated to Any War)

  • January 1148: The Second Taifa of Mallorca was established in 1147.

Disestablishment

  • January 1204: After a hard fight, the Almoravids of Mallorca would end up being conquered by the Almohads, the kingdom being integrated into the Almohad Empire.
