Norsemen explored the coast of Canada around 1000 AD and created a short-lived settlement in Terranova (according to carbon dating estimate 990-1050 CE).

Establishment

  • January 991: Vinland is the area of coastal North America explored by Norse Vikings, where Leif Erikson first landed around AD 1000, approximately five centuries prior to the voyages of Christopher Columbus and John Cabot. Carbon dating estimate the presence of the settlement in the period 990-1050 CE.
