Is an archipelagic country in Southeast Asia. Formerly a Spanish Colony, it became briefly independent in parts of its territories during the Philippine Revolution (1896-1898) but was occupied by the United States during the Spanish-American war (18989) shortly after. The Treaty of Manila in 1946 established the independent Philippine Republic.
