Was on of the successor states of the Turkic Khaganate that split in 581 AD. It controlled territories in central Asia. It was soon dissolved and divided between its eastern and western counterparts.

Establishment

  • January 582: Apa Qaghan obtained control of the northern territories where he established the Northern Turkic Khaganate.

1. Göktürk civil war

In 581, the fourth Göktürk khagan, Taspar Qaghan, died. A civil war erupted between the four claimants to the throne.

  • January 582: Apa Qaghan obtained control of the northern territories where he established the Northern Turkic Khaganate.
  • January 585: In 584 Ishbara Qaghan raided Apa Qaghan's territory and killed the Apa Qaghan's mother. Apa Qaghan took refuge in the west.
