Was one of the private colonies of the American Colonization Society (ACS) founded in Liberia that would later merge to form the Commonwealth of Liberia (a predecessor of modern-day Liberia). It was located in the modern-day Liberian county of Sinoe. The ACS was an organization that encouraged and supported the migration African-Americans to Africa.

Establishment

  • January 1836: The Mississippi in Africa colony was founded in 1835 by the "Mississippi and Louisiana State Colonization Societies". The Mississippi in Africa Colony was founded in 1835 by the Mississippi and Louisiana State Colonization Societies. This colony was located in present-day County Sinoe and had Greenville as its capital.
