The Majeerteen Sultanate was established around 1800 by Somalis from the Majeerteen Darod clan in the Somali region of Puntland.

- January 1801: The Majeerteen Sultanate was established around 1800 by Somalis from the Majeerteen Darod clan, led by Sultan Yusuf Ali Kenadid. The territory expanded along the northeastern coast of present-day Somalia, with its capital at Alula.

- January 1879: In 1878, the Majeerteen Sultanate split into two separate entities, with one faction establishing the Sultanate of Hobyo (Obbia). This new sultanate was founded by Sultan Yusuf Ali Kenadid, who aimed to expand his influence in the region.
- April 1889: In late 1889, Boqor Osman entered into a treaty with Italy, making his kingdom a protectorate known as Italian Somaliland.
