Was a precolonial kingdom in Gambia created by the Mandinka people.

Establishment

  • January 1801: In the early 19th century the empire split into two kingdoms dominated by the Mandinka, in Lower Niani (French Haut Niani).

1. Events

  • January 1895: From 1895 the inland of Gambia was part of the British Gambia Colony and Protectorate.

Disestablishment

  • January 1901: At the end of the 19th century, the British colonial rulers integrated Lower Niani as a district of the Gambia Colony.
