Establishment

  • January 1101: Wilhelm I, who was born in the second half of the 11th century, is documented as the first Count of Gruyeres. Around 1100 he took part in the Crusades along with many young men from Gruyères.

1. Events

  • January 1245: Gruyeres came under the feudal sovereignty of the Counts of Savoy.
  • January 1537: Gruyere was a Savoyard fiefdom until 1536.

Disestablishment

  • January 1549: From 1548, the County of Gruyeres was a part of the Swiss Confederation.
