Establishment

• January 699 BC: Kythera was a greek polis in the ancient region of Lakedaimon from ca. 700 BC.

1. Events

• January 580 BC: Sparta took Kythira island from Argos early in the sixth century.
• February 194 BC: Kythira was independent, and issued her own coins in 195 after the Achaean defeat of Sparta.

Disestablishment

• January 145 BC: By this time, the Greek cities were in practice subject to the Roman Empire.
