Establishment

• January 1796: The Kingdom of Tawana is established. The first known king was Tawana a Mathiba Mpuru (1795-1820). The polity covered approximately actual North-West District of Botswana.
• January 1796: BaTawana tribe established.

1. Events

• October 1885: In 1885, William Worthington Jordan bought a tract (fifty thousand square kilometers) of land from the Ovambo chief Kambonde for three hundred pounds. Here he established the Republic of Upingtonia on 20 October 1885.

Disestablishment

• January 1895: British officials arrived in the Ngamiland region in 1894.
