Was an Indian polity located in the modern-day Indian State of Gujarat.

Establishment

  • January 1731: Cambay was founded as a state in 1730 by the penultimate Nawab of the Mughal Empire, Mirza Ja‘far Mu’min Khan I, the last of the Mughal governors of Gujarat, at the time of the dismemberment of Mughal rule in India.

Disestablishment

  • January 1781: In 1780, Cambay State was captured by the British Army under the command of General Goddard Richards. However, the territory was later returned to the Marathas in 1783.
