Establishment

  • January 1233: Polonnaruwa was abandoned in the 14th century and the seat of government of the Sinhalese kings was moved to Dambadeniya.

1. Events

  • January 1259: Sri Lanka was invaded by Pandya ruler Jatavarman Sundara I in 1258.
  • January 1310: Northern Sri Lanka remained under Pandya control until c. 1308-09 CE.

Disestablishment

  • January 1342: Gampola was made the capital city of the island by King Buwanekabahu IV.
