Establishment
- October 1144: The lords of Schalkhausen and Dornberg are first mentioned on October 18, 1144 in a document by Bishop Embrico of Würzburg as a family called "Scalchusen".

Disestablishment
- January 1332: After the male line of the Dornberg died out in 1288, the bailiwick was inherited by Ludwig von Oettingen, who was married to a daughter of Wolfram von Dornberg. In 1331 Ludwig von Oettingen sold this property to Friedrich IV, the then burgrave of Nuremberg.
