Is a country in Oceania that comprises the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and its offshore islands in Melanesia. Formerly under Australian protection, it became in independent country in 1975.

Establishment

  • September 1975: During the term of the Whitlam Government in Australia, the Territory became the independent nation of Papua New Guinea.
