A Berber tribal confederation on the Atlantic coast of Morocco.

Establishment

  • January 744: In 742 or 743, the Barghwata removed themselves from the rebel alliance, and retreated to the Tamesna region, on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, where they founded their new independent state and abandoned their Sufri Kharijitism.

1. Events

  • January 1058: In 1057, the tribes of the Atlas Mountains were conquered by the Almoravid Caliphate, led by the Berber dynasty of Almoravids.

Disestablishment

  • January 1059: The Barghawata Confederacy was annexed by the Almoravid Caliphate.
