January 1251: Independence of the Paramountcy of Samoa from Tonga.
January 1451: The kingdom of ʻUvea was founded sometimes in the 15th century and the monarch was titled Tuʻi ʻUvea.
January 1566: Tu`a (Alo) kingdom founded.
January 1601: By 1600 AD the Kingdom of Tonga was reduced only to the Island of Tonga.
May 1900: Tonga became a protected state under a Treaty of Friendship with Britain.
January 1953: Establishment of the separate British protectorate over Tonga.
