January 1151: Keonjhar State was founded sometime in the first half of the 12th century, the founder being Jati Singh (Jyoti Bhanj), brother of Adi Singh (Adi Bhanj), founder of Mayurbhanj State.

Was the partition of British India in two independent entities: India (with a Hindu majority) and Pakistan (with a Muslim majority). This included the several princely states that were dependent on the British Colony.
January 1949: Accession to India (exact date not known). The Indian Independence Act came into being on 15 August.
January 1551: According to tradition, the first ruler of the Pal Lahara State was a Suryavanshi Rajput of Dharanagar named Santosh Pal. While returning from a pilgrimage to Puri he crossed this territory and made peace between two local tribal groups. As a result, Santosh Pal was elected as ruler by the Sabara people, one of the tribes involved in the conflict.
January 1802: Keonjhar State signs a subsidiary alliance with the British Empire.
