  • January 710: After Witiza's death, his son Agila II succeeded him, but some officials and also part of the noble Goths (perhaps the same ones who had been persecuted by Égica) did not want to recognize the new king, but did not have the strength to dethrone him. Then they elected Roderic to the throne, who however had to face the opposition of part of the nobility and a large part of the clergy, who instead supported Agila II.
