  • December 1637: December 17, 1637 - April 5, 1638: a revolt that broke out in 1637, during the Edo period, in southwestern Japan, which saw Japanese Catholics, largely peasants, rise up against the government of the Tokugawa shogunate which had implemented severe religious persecution against Catholic Christians.
