- January 374: In 374 we know that the treasonous killing, after a banquet, of the leader of the Quadi, Gabinius, by the prefect of the praetorium of Gaul, Maximinus, enraged not only the Quadi, but many other populations close to them (such as the Iazyges and the Vandals), who together sent marauding parties across the Danube into Roman territory. Thus the peasants engaged in harvesting were attacked without any warning, many of whom were exterminated, many others were taken prisoner.
