• January 1043: Landed in Durazzo in February 1043, headed for Constantinople along the Via Egnatia. It is probable that Maniace intended to coordinate his attack with another carried out by the Russians, who in fact presented themselves before Constantinople in the summer. Thus he moved towards Macedonia, after which near Ostrovo, he faced the Byzantine army loyal to the legitimate emperor.
