Was a war of succession in the Grand Duchy of Moscow from 1434 to 1453. The war saw two factions: Vasily II (son of the previous duke) and Yury Dmitrievich (brother of the previous duke).

1. First period of the Muscovite Civil War

Were a series of struggles between two pretenders to the Muscovite Duchy: Vasily II (son of the previous duke) and Yury Dmitrievich (borther of the previous duke). Yury was able to defeat his nephew, but died and was succeded by his son Vasily Yuryevich.

  • January 1425: In the first phase of (1425-1434), Yuri of Zvenigorod and Vasily II fought in bloody disputes alternately for the dignity of grand duke and the throne in Moscow.

2. Second period of the Muscovite Civil War

Was the second phase of the Muscovite Civil War, and consisted in a struggle for power between the sons of Yury Dmitrievich.

  • January 1434: The second phase of the struggle (1434–1436) began after the death of Yuri of Zvenigorod (Prince of Galich-Mersky), when Vasily Kosoy ascended the throne of the Grand Duke, provoking the enmity of his own brothers Dmitry Shemyaka and Dmitry the Handsome.

3. Third period of the Muscovite Civil War

Was the final phase of Muscovite Civil War, which saw Vasily II winning the civil war against his cousins.

  • January 1436: In the third phase of the crisis (1436-1453) Dmitri Schemjaka and Vasily II fought each other, from which the latter emerged as the final victor - with loss of his eyesight.
