1. First Mandingo War
Was a war between France and the Wassoulou Empire.
- January 1884: French troops occupied Bamako.
- January 1887: In 1886 Samory was forced to accept the Niger as his frontier.
2. Second Mandingo War
Was a war between France and the Wassoulou Empire.
- January 1896: Samory defeated the French, putting a temporary end to the protectorate over the Ivory Coast.
